Optical Thin Film Filters are manufactured by Vacuum deposition of Multilayer Dielectric Coatings onto Glass, Semiconductor or Organic substrates. These substrates can add to the functionality of the filter as a result of their absorption characteristics. Such Filters operate in the Ultraviolet, Visible & Infrared regions. The Dielectric materials and the substrates are selected according to the wavelength region of interest together with environmental and operational requirements.

Envin has a comprehensive range of capabilities in all of the areas outlined above.

Optical Thin Film Filter products range from relatively simple Antireflection Coatings to extremely sophisticated Multilayer Filters involving hundreds of layers

These Optical Thin Film Filters are used in many areas from colour filters for lighting application to Biotechnology instrumentation and security screening . The applications and demands are extensive and constantly growing.

Envin specialises in Custom products which are designed and manufactured in house to provide rapid solutions to Customer requirements.

Optical Thin Film Filters can be produced on many different substrates; from inexpensive glasses produced by Draw or Float techniques to highly accurate ground and polished items. Absorption Filters are also used in combination with Thin Film Coatings.

All filters produced at Envin are measured and qualified using industry standard spectrophotometers covering the range 175nm to 30 microns.

Capabilities

Within our custom built modern facility we, at Envin Scientific Ltd, design and manufacture High Precision Optical Filters and Optical Thin Film Coatings for Ultraviolet, Visible and Infrared Applications. Our standard wavelength range is 175nm to 8 microns.

Filters are manufactured using a range of Vacuum Deposition Techniques including the use of ‘Energetic Ion’ technology. These techniques yield great benefits including excellent adhesion, hardness, durability and temperature stability. Multiplicity of deposition systems ensures a continuity of supply.

Designs range from relatively simple Antireflection coatings comprising one or several layers to very sophisticated structures using hundreds of layers which can then be tens of microns thick. Consequently, difficult high performance criteria products such as steep notch filters and very high OD blocking filters are regularly produced.

Filters are produced on a range of substrate materials at sizes up to 300 x 200mm and with thicknesses from 0.1mm to 10’s of mm. Final sizing can be from 1mm to >100mm in circular, rectangular or other shapes. These filters can be supplied as unmounted or within assemblies such as single filter holders, multiple filter wheels or matrix arrays.

Qualifications

All of our Optical Filters & Thin Film coatings are performance qualified using Top of the range Industry standard Spectrophotometers:-

Perkin Elmer Lambda900 for 175 – 3200nm.

We have two instruments to secure continuity of supply should a fault develop.

Perkin Elmer 983G for 2-30 microns

Despite its age this grating instrument still provides superior measurements.

All measurements are filed electronically and can be traced back to machine runs and process Logs.

Optical Thin Film Filters are used in many areas from colour filters for lighting products to Biotechnology instrumentation and security screening. The applications and demands are extensive and constantly growing.

For example High Illumination intensities, weak signals and widespread use of Lasers means that filters must be environmentally stable and provide many orders of magnitude of signal to noise in order that good results may be routinely achieved. Below you can find many examples of Filter designs for a variety of applications. These are by no means comprehensive since new technologies are constantly emerging which require the design and manufacture of new Filters.
